Has the countdown begun for Thatikonda MLA Sridevi?

Update: 2022-08-20 04:52 GMT
YSRCP top leadership's decision to appoint former minister and current MLC Dokka Manikya Varaprasad as the incharge for Thatikonda assembly constituency has created quite a stir. The YSRCP top boss has even made Dokka the government whip and thus gave him protocol post.  This is being seen as a direct signal to sitting MLA Undavalli Sridevi that she may not be given the party ticket in the 2024 elections.

Party insiders say that the leadership is not happy with Sridevi's performance. She is believed to have encouraged groupism in the party and this has affected the overall image of the party in Thatikonda. So, the party has sidelined and made Dokka the constituency incharge. Dokka has already held a couple of meetings with the party workers in Thatikonda.

Sridevi  strongly feels that former home minister and Amaravati district YSRCP president Mekathoti Sucharita is behind the move. Her supporters staged a dharna on Friday in front of Sucharita's house and demanded that Dokka be sent back. However, Mekatoti Sucharita told the protesters that this was party decision and that they have to fall in line willy nilly.

Sridevi's tenure has been controversial. There has been a controversy over her SC status as she has claimed herself to be a Christian. The matter is now being investigated. In addition, she has supported some controversial elements of the party involved in sand quarrying and other illegal activities. All these have earned a bad name for the party.
