The Hyderabad High Court quashed the complaint made by senior police officer Akun Sabharwal against Outlook magazine which publsihed a controversial article about Akun's wife and IAS officer Smita Sabharwal. Akun filed a criminal case on the magazine and its scribes for publishing a defamatory article on his IAS wife Smita Sabharwal

Finding no legal base for the case, Justice B Siva Sankara Rao while delivering the verdict said it was a sheer abuse of legal process by the senior police officer. Few months ago report was published by the magazine against IAS officer Smita Sabarwal, who is working as additional secretary in the Chief Minister's Office. The magazine posted a caricature describing her in an inappropriate manner.

In July this year, the magazine managemnt has  approached the High Court with a plea to quash the case registered against them by the police. The judge  noted that Smita Sabharwal herself launched separate legal proceedings against the scribes and issued notices to them. Judge observed that the magazine management had even apologised to her. The judge said she can proceed further if that is not sufficient for her.
