Hindi Heats Up State, Centre Relations

Update: 2021-11-10 09:22 GMT
Hindi has become a bone of contention in this state. The Centre has appointed a chief secretary who is a Hindi speaking officer. The state wants a CS, who can speak the language of the state. The reason? The MLAs, ministers, officers and others in this state do not know Hindi. So they have written to the Union Home Minister to appoint a person of their state as the CS.

The state in question is Mizoram . Mizoram is witnessing a funny stand-off. The Central government has appointed Renu Sharma as the chief secretary  after  the incumbent CS lalrungawia Chuaungo took voluntary retirement.  However, the state government appointed JC Ramthanga, a Mizo, to the post.

Even as the stand-off continued, Mizo CM said that Mizos did not understand Hindi and that none of hsi ministers understand Hindi. He said some of the ministers also have problem with English. So, he wanted a chief secretary with thorough knowledge of Mizo. He said this was the first time a non-Mizo was being appointed to the post of the chief secretary.  He said he was an NDA partner and wanted the government to oblige him.

He said he was asking for this favour in return for his support to the NDA. Interestingly, he said that the Congress would make fun of him if he did not get a Mizo chief secretary.
