The latest fad among the IAS and IPS officers in Telangana is to go hyper active on the social media. Several IAS officials are now said to be employing reputed firms to manage their social media accounts and promote their brand image as efficient officers.
If sources are to be believed, at least 10 young officials are spending anything between Rs 5 lakh to 10 lakh on their social media activities. Some have hired Delhi-based PR firms to boost their image. The reason? The young boss of Telangana is so enamoured of the social media that he is judging the officials on the basis of their social media profiles. So, to fall into his good books, most officials are now taking to the social media. Interestingly, all these IAS and IPS officers have government-appoited PROs, but they are confined to official programmes. So the young mandarins feel their humane side, their spunkiness and their image as an efficient officer needs to be projected properly on the social media.
Quite surprisingly, there PR companies are being paid hefty sums, while the monthly salaries of IAS officers are not so high. Wonder where are they getting this money from!!
