As part of the Make in India, a program started by the Central government to encourage companies to manufacture their products in the country, India closed a deal with Russia.

Some media reports claimed that, under the deal, India will export over 6 lakh modernized 200 series rifles AK-203 to Russia. The production of the rifles will start by the year-end reportedly.

If we have to take anything from the media reports, India will first import as many as 20,000 units of AK 203 rifles under the deal at Rs 80,000 per piece.

The remaining guns will be manufactured in India, as a joint venture of  Indo-Russia Rifles Private Limited.

Let’s have a look into the main differences between the AK-47 and AK-203 riffled. The AK-47 rifle is not capable enough of firing bullets as the range of the rifles is very less.

The latest version AK-203 holds 30 bullets and offers an effective range of 400 meters. It is believed that the rifle has 100 percent accuracy. These rifles come with the flash facility for a clear vision.

Once the rifles arrive, then they will replace the Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) rifles which are being used by the Indian Army troops.
