India Sets A Record With Largest Vaccination Drive

Manohar Agnani, additional secretary of the Ministry of Health department announced that 2,07,229 people across the country had been vaccinated on January 16, the first day of the vaccine distribution. The figure is even higher than the combined one-day figure in the US, UK and France.

Two lakh 7 thousand people were vaccinated on the first day and 17 thousand people were vaccinated on the second day. So far, 2,24,301 people have been vaccinated, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Of those vaccinated, 447 reported some side effects. However, he said they were just normal fever, headache and fatigue. He said only three of them needed to be admitted to the hospital for treatment.

"Authorities are constantly monitoring the health of those who have been vaccinated. As of Sunday, the vaccination process has continued in only 553 centres in six states across the country. A total of 17,072 people were vaccinated on the second day," said Manohar, Additional Secretary, Union Health Ministry.

"Vaccine distribution continued on Sunday in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Manipur and Tamil Nadu," he added.
