The spread of the dreaded virus originated from the Wuhan Province of China continues to ring the danger bells in India as a total of 37,148 fresh infections were reported in the last 24 hours.
This marks the second-highest spike of cases so far in the country after 40,425 cases reported the other day. With this new addition of cases, the total infections of the contagious disease in India zoomed to 1155191.
On the other hand, the total casualties in connection with the respiratory disease mounted to 28084 with as many as 587 fresh casualties reported in the last 24 hours.
On a brighter note, 24,491 patients recovered from the contagious disease in the last 24 hours and the total recoveries in the country rose to mammoth 724577. The active cases stood at 402529.
The recovery rate which has been increasing gradually rose to 62.72%, while the gap between the active cases and recovery cases widened to over 3.20 lakhs for the first time.
Looking at the samples tested for the virus, a total of 3,33,395 samples were tested on Monday alone and as of July 20, 1,43,81,303 samples were tested, which makes India the second country in the world to conduct more number of pandemic tests after the US, as per the White House.
Globally, the total cases of the disease increased to over 14.6 million while 609,198 people succumbed to the virus across the countries so far. As of today, 8.2M patients managed to recover from the virus.
