IPL Player compares IPL Auction to buying Cattle!

Update: 2022-02-22 05:08 GMT
The much-awaited mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) was concluded recently. Massive money was involved in the auction and the teams did not shy away to pay hefty amounts to buy players. Due to the fight between the teams, a few players were auctioned for a high price.

Days after the highly intense auction, a former Indian player who also plays the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament Robin Uthappa had made many heads turn with his sensational comments on the auction. Having said that, he also proposed a new system for the citation.

Speaking with a Karnataka-English News channel based in Karnataka, Robin Uthappa said that the auction of the players doesn't provide any good feeling as he felt like a cattle as the enthusiasts are quoting prices for the players. It feels like waiting for the exam results, he said.

Elaborating more on the same, the world cup winning player said that the auction process makes so many things go through the heads of the players. Calling it not so pleasing experience, Robin Uthappa also expressed his reservations on the way the teams decide on how much to pay for the players based on their performance and capabilities.

Robin Uthappa expressed his concerns about the players who went unsold in the auction despite putting in so much effort. Saying that the practice will not send a good message to players, Robin Uthappa said that instead of auction, the teams might use the draft system and the teams with the best quote would get to buy the players.

Despite the success of the IPL which is getting only bigger with each passing season, there is an opinion that the money is playing a bigger role and the talent is not getting the required value and respect as everyone is behind money. The likes of Dale Steyn made similar comments and apologized later.

It has to be mentioned that, legendary Indian player Sunil Gavaskar had earlier alleged that the young players are losing their concentration after getting money at an early age and this practice is not good for Indian cricket. Now another critic joined the list in the form of Robin Uthappa.
