Is Chandrababu Taking A Big Risk With BJP?

Update: 2023-06-07 11:29 GMT
In a big political sensation, former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital Delhi. The meeting caught everyone's attention as the two met after a long time. Media also gave a lot of hype to the meeting to see what would happen.

But it appears that no significant development happened in the meeting and if it would have happened then we would have known this in the media. Many say that the meeting would be for possible alliance between TDP and BJP for the elections.

The meeting also started a debate on whether Chandrababu Naidu is taking a big risk with BJP. It is said that Chandrababu proposed the idea to join hands in Telangana and then in Andhra Pradesh.

But there are a few issues here. TDP once had a good strength in the state and after the bifurcation everything changed. The party has a cadre here but the vote bank got diverted to the ruling party. As an example of this, TDP candidate could not win elections in Kukatpally where Andhra settlers live in big numbers.

If alliance happens then it would be a benefit to BJP and not for TDP. If TDP leaders come for campaign activities the issue of Andhra-Telangana would be raised again as happened in 2018. The T BJP leaders are said to be divided on the alliance. While a few leaders support the others are opposing. The only benefit BJP-TDP alliance would face is BJP would manage to win a few seats in Khammam region which is the strong zone of Telugu Desam Party.

The situation is even worse in Andhra Pradesh. BJP has no goodwill in the state and TDP might face the wrath if alliance happens. People in Andhra are angry with the BJP over issues like not granting special status, not helping the state. People could not digest the fact that Vizag Steel Plant is listed for privatisation.

Even the AP BJP leaders has no answer for the question of what has the Centre done for the state. Massive funds were announced for the Polavaram project. But the credit goes for YSRCP and not BJP.

If we have to believe that YSRCP has anti sentiment and people are looking at alternatives, there is no clarity if they vote for BJP. There is even a threat of voters picking YCP looking at the BJP, which has not done anything for the state. Looking at all these factors we might have to say that Chandrababu is taking a big risk.
