Is it the end of the road for Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary?

Update: 2022-06-18 06:26 GMT
He has been around in politics since the time the TDP was formed in 1983. He won from Rajahmundry several times and had even briefly served as a minister. But, he bet on the wrong horses in the game of TDP internal politics. Since then, though Chandrababu continued to give him the party ticket, he was never made a minister.

Now, this veteran of many battles, Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, is facing a serious threat to his clout. In 2019, Chandrababu asked him to contest from Rajahumundry rural and left the Rajahmundry urban to former MLA Adireddy Appa Rao's daughter-in-law and Kinjarapu Yerren Naidu's daughter. She won the election and effectively limited Gorantla to the rural Rajahmundry.

Every attempt that Gorantla made to foray into urban Rajahmundry was met with stiff resistance from Adireddy family. Now, Adireddy family has announced that Appa Rao himself would contest from Rajahmundry Urban in the 2024 elections. He made it clear that he was not going to cede the Rajahmundry Urban space to Butchaiah Chowdary.

Quite significantly, Butchaiah Chowdary is already into his 80s and this could be his last election. This effectively means that he may never be able to become a minister in the TDP government despite decades of service to the party. Gorantla's supporters are said to be quite upset at this development, but do not know what to do. As of now, Gorantla's political career appears to be hitting an iron wall.
