One very important development is that the Sonia Gandhi has spoken in support of the special status for Andhra Pradesh. In fact, she spoke about it on Telangana soil. This is being seen as a major victory for AP. It is being seen as a vindication of the popular demand for special status to AP.
But, this success is the result of the relentless fight of one man. This man has been talking about the special status for the past four-and-a-half years. He had gone from pillar to post, organised meetings, talked to college students and youth, staged deekshas and took up the issue in the AP Assembly. For the last four and a half years, he had sent delegation after delegation to the Central Government and met everyone who matters. This man is none other than YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
But for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the issue could have been consigned to the dust bin. The issue was all but forgotten and the general public too felt that it was not possible to have special status for Andhra Pradesh. CM Chandrababu had on the floor of AP Assembly said that special package was better than special status. But, Jagan's relentless efforts have put the issue on top of the agenda. He forced Chandrababu to take a U Turn and talk about special status. It is because of Jagan's movement that Chandrababu chose to part ways with the BJP. Now, he has forced Sonia Gandhi to talk about special status.
If the same pressure continues, then even the BJP might soon talk about special status for Andhra Pradesh. That would be the real victory for YS Jagan.
