Kamal Haasan disapproved replacement of Entertainment Tax and Service Tax with a much higher single tax (GST). Though he welcomed the concept of One Nation - One Tax, The Actor believes 28% GST Tax will destroy Regional Cinema.

The 'Viswaroopam' Star said he would be forced to quit films if GST rate on Film Industry isn't slashed by at least half. He appealed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to bring down the tax slab on Cinema to at least 12-15 percent. 'I will quit cinema If I can't afford the Tax. Should I work for the Government? Is this the East India Company?,' he questioned.

Bollywood gets benefitted from 28 percent GST Tax as the Hindi Film Industry used to pay much higher tax until now. But, This is a huge blow to the Regional Cinema. Kamal asks, 'How could Centre impose same tax on Regional, Bollywood & Hollywood films?'.
