The Congress party passed the crucial test of the general elections in Karnataka. Not just passing, the grand old party also passed the test in distinction. The party won more seats than the magic figure to form the government in the state. Besides the MLA seats, the Congress party also saw a rise in its vote share and many say that the JDs vote share was directed to Congress.
Now the Congress party has a big task of picking the Chief Minister candidate. former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar are in the race for the Chief Minister post. The two leaders are the strength of the party and the leadership has to pick one.
To get more clarity on this, a Congress Legislative party meeting was held in Karnataka to take the responses of the MLAs on who should be the Chief Minister. The likes of Sushil Kumar Shinde, Deepak Bawaria, and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh are appointed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers for Karnataka.
During the meeting, the MLAs are said to have not made their opinions out on the leaders. So a secret ballot box was set up at the meeting so that the leaders could reveal their opinions. A report has been made by the leaders on what the MLAs said about who should be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, the AICC observer, spoke to the media on the meeting and said that the opinions of the MLAs were recorded and a report was prepared. He also said that the report will be submitted to the Congress President.
"We have taken the views from all the MLAs, the meeting went on till 2am. We have prepared a report and will submit it to the Congress president," Mr Singh said.
As per the information, issues like who should be made the CM between DK Shiva Kumar and Siddaramaiah should be made the CM. The issue of how about making a Dalit leader the CM was also brought up and the MLAs were asked to give their opinions. Now the ball is in the court of Mallikarjun Kharge in picking the CM.
