Political heat gripped Karnataka as the elections started today. The polling booths set up for the elections are recording a good number of footfalls. Besides the election officers, security personnel and agents of the parties reached the booths to see that no issue pops out. This is the same case with all the booths in the state.
But contrast scenes are reported from a polling booth in Chamarajanagar's Chikka Yelachatti. Following the schedule, the election officers and others reached the booth that was set up in a state-run school. But to their surprise, not even a single voter came to the booth till afternoon much to their shock.
So a few officers went to the locals to ask why they did not show up at the polling booths despite hours after the commencement of the elections. The locals reportedly said that they boycotted the elections as leaders remember them during elections only and the rest of the time they won't remember them.
As the voters in the area boycotted the elections and decided not to cast their votes, the area recorded less than 10 percent of the vote percentage. Chamarajanagar's vote percentage is said to be just 5.75 percent and this is the least percentage recorded by any district in the state.
Saying that their region has many issues and the leaders are not interested in addressing them, the locals reportedly told the officers that even one voter will also not cast their votes in the village as they have taken the joint decision.
The Chamarajanagar area is covered with a dense forest and it is a remote area. The presence and movement of wild animals are a big issue for the region. But nothing was made by the parties and leaders in this regard as per the locals. They also said that they don't have roads and drainage facilities and they are facing issues with this.
The presence of wild animals near polling stations and the lack of mobile networks in remote villages are also other issues that are unique to the region. Elephants and other animals are reportedly worrying people there and the locals made multiple requests to the leaders on the issue.
