Thanks to the Munugode bypolls, the politics of Telangana have hotted up once again. All the three major parties â the Congress, the BJP and the TRS â are pulling all stops to win the elections. The BJP is pitting all its energies to ensure that Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy wins the polls. The TRS, which did not win any bypoll where the BJP is the main rival, is trying to wipe off the infamy. For the Congress, Munugode is important to stay relevant in Telangana politics.
The Congress dilemma is classical. It has no alternative to Komatireddys and wants Rajagopal Reddy's elder brother Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to campaign for the party. Venkat Reddy, who is refusing to leave the party, is citing some pretext or the other not to campaign against his younger brother. He even avoided meeting the Congress high command on the issue.
Now, Priyanka Gandhi herself has called up Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and asked him to meet her Delhi. She sent the message after he said he would stay away from the bypoll. The high command has asked Venkat Reddy, who is an MP from Bhongir on the Congress ticket, to come to Delhi. Whether Komatireddy Venkat Reddy will go to Delhi or not is the big question mark.
If sources are to be believed, Telangana Congress affairs incharge Manickam Tagore is of the opinion that the party should not surrender itself to Venkat Reddy. He is said to have suggested that the party adopt a tough stand while dealing with Reddy. It remains to be seen whether the party will placate him or show him his place.
