KTR breathes fire on Economic Times

Update: 2017-06-29 16:56 GMT
An article published by Economic Times regarding Rs 15,000 crore land scam didn't go down well with Telangana IT Minister. K Taraka Rama Rao took to Facebook for condemning the content which damages the image of Telangana State.

Saying that Media is treated with so much respect in India where its been called fourth pillar of our Democracy, KTR alleged some media houses have misused the freedom and damaging the society for sensationalism. 'Where does the responsibility & accountability start? Telangana has been a victim of such uninformed and malicious reporting the Telangana Movement. Telangana state became a reality inspite of heavy lobbying and negative campaign from the media. Post the formation of state, Most newspapers have taken a neutral stand. But, few newspapers continued to target the new state without giving it a breathing space,' he said.

KTR pointed out ET has published an article saying 700 firms have shifted from Hyd to AP within 4 weeks after the formation of state. 'In reality, No such thing happened. Another article surfaced within a month to send a signal to investors that things aren't right with Telangana. Over the last 3 years, the Chief of Bureau of ET in Hyderabad has been writing a series of negative stories on Telangana,' adds the Minister.

The IT Minister claimed Telangana is growing faster than country average and it have 4 out of World's Top 5 Tech Firms. He said 50% of 3,828 new companies which were offered clearances by T-Govt are operational. He says, 'TRS Government created 1,09,495 jobs in IT and 2,28,355 jobs in Industry. GDP is at 10.1%, second highest in the country. It is unfortunate that while the new State is working hard to improve its economy and employment by bringing in new industry, some of the news agencies are publishing paid articles and spreading canards only to malign the State. With the recent article titled ‘Largest realty scam in Telangana worth Rs. 15,000; Google, Microsoft also affected’, Economic Times has reached a new low in sensational journalism. When a politician is corrupt, we have means available to prosecute him through legal methods, or oust him in elections. But what can a nation do when the watchdog itself becomes corrupt, posing a greater threat to Indian democracy?'.
