For most of the YSRCP MLAs, their position has become a millstone around their neck. Thanks to the centralised administration and governance model of CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, most of the first time MLAs are in dire financial straits. Many are heavily indebted and are running scared of visiting their constituencies
Unlike the TDP MLAs during the 2014-2019 period, who could made good amount of money thanks to Chandrababu's munificence, the YSRCP MLAs are unable to earn much. There are no developmental works and no contracts. Similarly, funds are not being sanctioned for any work due to the dire financial status of the state. As a result, they are unable to get their cuts from various departments.
Several MLAs borrowed heavily during the election campaign in the hope that they can pay back after getting elected. However, with Jagan ensuring that no corruption takes places in the administration, they are unable to make any earnings. Hence these MLAs are now avoiding those who gave them money.
One MLA from Prakasam district recently met the minister from the same district and reportedly narrated his plight. He wanted the minister's help for a bailout. Meanwhile, those who advanced loans to the MLA are said to be planning to hold a dharna in front of the MLA's residence. The minister is said to be holding parleys to bring about some agreement between the MLA and those who have lent money to him.
