The United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) which helps nations in human development has mentioned some interesting things in its latest report on the expectancy of people in India. The details mentioned by the global agency took everyone by surprise. The agency mentioned the Covid impact in its survey.
Talking about the Covid pandemic impact, the UNDP said that just like other nations, India also faced the deadly impact and it resulted in the life expectancy of people dropping. The average life expectancy of people in India fell to 67.2 years from 69.7 years, the UN agency said in its survey.
Talking about the recent survey, the UNDP carried out the Human Development Index (HDI) 2021 making three areas health, education, and average income the parameters. As many as 191 nations in the world were added to the HID index. The surprising thing is that India was ranked 132 on the list. India got 131 rank the previous year and this year the rank dropped.
The life expectancy in India coming down is a bigger issue as the expectancy has been increasing in the nation in the past ten years. The nation witnessed a slight increase in expectancy over the past decade. Sadly, the growth recorded in the decade took a u-turn and the expectancy saw a dip.
Talking about the world scenario, human development went backward by five years due to the deadly impact left by the contagious Covid. Giving more details about Covid, the UNDP mentioned how Covid is still ringing dangerous bells in a few countries and how there are restrictions in a few nations to deal with the virus spread.
The report shed light on how the Covid spread its wings across the world for two years and how the world came to standstill with this. Drawing a comparison between before and after Covid emergence, the UNDP survey said the life expectancy in the world stood at 73 years in 2019 and it fell to 71.4 years by 2021.
Saying that a few nations effectively dealt with the Covid impact, the UNDP report quoted examples of Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the Caribbean which are dealing with a deadly time.
