Maharashtra is the severely hit state in India with the Covid impact. Compared to other states, Maharashtra has been seeing the highest infections and fatalities caused by the Coronavirus.

As a double blow to the state, Mahrashtrais said to have the highest cases of mucormycosis type of fungus, which is also called as Black Fungus, a virus found in recovered patients of Covid-19.

News Agency Press Trust of India(PTI) quoted Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope as saying: There could be more than 2,000 cases of black fungus in the state.

With the state reporting more and more cases of fungal infection, the government has decided to dedicate the hospitals attached to the medical colleges to treat the fungus patients.

To see that patients won't face troubles in getting treatment for the deadly fungus, the treatment cost of Black Fungus will be covered under the Health Insurance Scheme reportedly.

The deadly infection gets triggered by a fungus called mucor detected in Covid0-19 recovered patients. The fungus is found in wet surfaces mainly and it has a mortality rate of around 50 percent.

Earlier the fungus was detected in Covid-19 patients in the national capital Delhi and Gujarat. Headache, fever, pain under the eyes, nasal or sinus congestion, and partial loss of vision are some of its common symptoms.
