Maharashtra floor test on Thursday, Udhav's fate sealed?

Update: 2022-06-29 06:26 GMT
The high drama of Maharashtra politics, it appears, is hurtling towards the inevitable. It now appears certain that there would be a show of strength on the floor of Maharashtra assembly on Thursday and the anti-Udhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde appears set to remove Maha Vikas Aghadhi from power.

The BJP, which has the largest number of MLAs, has requested Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to call for a meeting to prove the majority of the Shiv Sena-led government on the floor of the house. Meanwhile, more than 40 MLAs are now said to be with the breakaway faction led by former minister Eknath Shinde. If sources are to be believed, a large number of the MPs too have left the Udhav group and joined Eknath Shinde.

If sources are to be believed, the MLAs belonging to the Eknath Shinde faction have left the Radisson Hotel in Guwahati and are likely to reach Goa. The MLAs chose Goa as it is a BJP ruled state and that Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government cannot let loose its police on them. The MLAs will reach Maharashtra assembly on Thursday, when the floor test will take place.

In another development, several independents too have written to the Governor to conduct a floor test to ascertain if Uddhav Thackeray government has the required numbers to run the government. Sources also felt that Uddav might resign as the chief minister ahead of the floor test as it is clear that he is in a minority.
