Male employees of Volvo India can now take paternity leave for 24 weeks

As a bid to endorse its gender-neutral parental leave policy, Volvo Car India has announced the “Family Bond” policy which permits the male employees to take paternity leave up to 24 weeks.

During the period of paternity leave, the male employees will be provided with 80 percent of their salary amount.

The paternity leave is applicable for all the regular male employees in India. But the employees have to work for a period of at least one year. The surrogacy parents can also avail themselves of the leave.

Calling Volvo an employee-friendly company, the Managing Director of Volvo Car India, Jyoti Malhotra said, the new policy was introduced to give a chance for the employees to share the joy of bringing up their children.

On the other hand, as per the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, women employees can continue to get fully paid maternity leave for 26 weeks, Volvo India said.

Volvo India announced the "Family Bond" policy on the lines of its global policy of granting leave to employees. Paternity leave is a popular employee benefit in western countries which is getting popular in India now.
