Masjid demolition on Secretariat is an embarrassing issue for MIM

Update: 2021-01-28 05:14 GMT
The demolition of the masjid on the premises of the secretariat is coming back to haunt not just the ruling TRS, but also its ally MIM. There is growing unrest among the Muslims, especially in the twin cities, over the demolition and the delay in reconstructing the mosque.

Recently, some Muslims defied the prohibitory orders and offered Namaz near the secretariat complex area. Also, the unrest is affecting the MIM, which till now was considered the sole representative of the Muslims. On Wednesday, the representatives of the MIM met Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and others and demanded that the temple construction be taken up at the earliest. The MIM even said that it was ready to provide engineers if need be for the construction. MIM MLA Ahmed Balala even presented a model of the temple at the meet and wanted the government to accept this model.

However, a lot of debris is yet to be cleared and it would take at least some more time to clean up the whole area. Realising that the delay was proving counter-productive, KCR himself paid a surprise visit to take stock of the debris-clearing at the secretariat site. Even the MIM is worried about the fallout of the delay in rebuilding the mosque.
