Massive Encounter On Khammam Border, Six Maoists Killed

In a major setback to the Maoists, the police felled six armed Naxals in an encounter on the border of Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The incident occurred in the deep forests in the Chennapuram area of Cherla manda in Khammam district on Monday morning.

The Greyhounds of Telangana and the special police party were engaged in a combing in the area in the wake of reports of Maoist movments on the border area. The combing party  chanced upon the Maoists in the Doraguda area near Pesarlapadu of Sukma district.. The Maoists ran towards the Chennapuram area, where there was a fierce encounter between them and the police.

The police were on the lookout for the Maoists, who were active in the Mulug area. The Maoists have taken part in some incidents of threatening and extortion. The police  claim that they had also destroyed some structures and vehicles in the area. A police  RSI and a jawan were injured a week ago in the Chennapuram area. Similarly, a former sarpanch of Suraveedu village of Venkatapuram mandal was also kidnapped and done to death on the suspicion of being an informer.

 The police said that at least six bodies of the Naxals were recovered from the encounter site.  The police also claimed that they have recovered considerable amount of weapons and explosives from the site. Further details are awaited.
