Munugode bypoll: Triple whammy for Revanth Reddy?

Update: 2022-08-23 05:46 GMT
Will Munugode assembly by-election turn into a triple whammy for Revanth Reddy? It clearly appears so.  The Congress is well on its way to lose an assembly seat. More importantly, Revanth's attack has completely alienated Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. At the end of the elections, Revanth's authority within the Congress would end up being seriously eroded.

Initially, Revanth did not even bother to include the name of Venkat Reddy in the list of the campaigners for Munugode. The idea was to test the loyalty of the elder Komatireddy. It was only after Venkat Reddy made a lot of noise that his name was included in the list of campaigners. The idea was to pit the brothers against one another and test Venkat Reddy's loyalty. Revanth Reddy's whole plan of pitting Komatireddy Venkat Reddy against Komatireddy Rajagupal Reddy appears to have gone awry.

Komatireddy cited insult by Revanth Reddy as the reason and has now announced that he would not join the campaign against his brother. With this, the Congress fight has effectively ended as there is no other leader who can effectively take on Rajagopal Reddy. Without Komatireddys, the Congress cannot make any impact in the constituency.

Now Revanth Reddy's plan to win back Munugode appears to have badly backfired. Now, he is left to shoulder the burden of the party's defeat. Secondly, he would be blamed for his failure to keep Komatireddys in the party fold. This would end up seriously denting his image in the eyes of the party's top leadership. This defeat could seriously affect the party's image too in the state. Thus, it's a triple whammy for Revanth Reddy.
