NGT Issues Orders To Hold Lift Irrigation Projects In AP

Update: 2020-09-10 05:18 GMT
The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy faced a jolt from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) after the statutory body served notices to hold the three projects.

The body maintained there are no environmental clearances for the three lift irrigation projects, Pattiseema, Purushothampatnam, and Chintalapudi projects.

It issued directives to the state government to get the environmental clearances for these projects and continue the project construction works. While Pattiseema and Chintalapudi are in the middle of work, construction works in the Purushothampatnam project has not started yet.

On the other hand, the Union Jal Shakti ministry said that these three projects don't come under the Polavaram project and maintained that Polavaram is acknowledged as a national project by the Centre.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) acknowledged these remarks and appealed to the Ministry to issue a clarification over the project.

An expert committee was being constituted to estimate the penalty for the construction works at these projects and six months was given for the committee to submit the report.
