The Union Government has been aiming at offering hassle-free travel to the commuters. In line with the efforts, the government has come up with technologies like the FASTag.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) meeting said that a new mechanism will be brought in the country which will replace the existing toll plaza system.

"The new technology will work in a way that the toll tax will be collected from the commuters with the help of the GPS imaging. This will make the travel a hassle-free one while hundreds of crores will also be saved, the Union Cabinet Minister said.

The GPS-based technology will be brought in the next three months which will come into existence from next year. The main problem we face is the currently available technology won't meet the needs of the upgrade. Hence the government is focusing on infrastructure development, he maintained.

Once the proposed technology comes into usage, the current physical toll plazas will be replaced and the way toll amount is collected would be changed, he said.

Saying that a few international companies have come forward to give their presentation about the GPS-based technology, Nitin Gadkari said a comprehensive plan on the technology will be made in three months.

While the plan would be made in three months, Nitin Gadkari had highlighted the importance of green connectivity.

The Union Minister had thanked the stakeholders and those who are involved in the mission to develop the highway system for their help and active participation.

Crediting the concerned parties for being able to finish 38 KMs per day, Nitin Gadkari shared his target which aims at completing over 100 KMS daily.

Earlier this week, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari expressed his belief in the standards of Highways in the country and opined that in the coming three years, the Highways in the country would meet the standards maintained by the United States.
