Finally, the Telugu Desam Party has ended the suspense and announced its support to BJP's presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. The announcement was made by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu himself. As it is, the TDP has very little strength both in the state assembly and in the Parliament. It has 23 MLAs and 3 MPs.
Interestingly, neither did anyone from the NDA nor from the BJP have sought Chandrababu's support for the presidential candidate. Interestingly, even the opposition did not approach the TDP. Chandrababu waited all these days hoping that someone would solicit his party's support. But, with no one approaching him, he finally decided to announce his support to Draupadi Murmu, who already has numbers on her side.
It may be recalled that Chandrababu Naidu desperately wants the BJP on his side when he goes to fight the 2024 elections. He knows that alone he cannot withstand YS Jagan's campaign blitzkrieg in the elections. But, the once-bitten BJP is avoiding the TDP like one avoids a pest. Chandrababu feels that his support to the BJP candidate in the presidential election might turn the tide in his favour at least in future.
Thanks to Chandrababu's decision, despite not having even a single MLA or MP in the state, BJP candidate Draupadi Murmu will get all the votes from Andhra Pradesh. All the three parties that have MLAs or MPs have decided to vote for the BJP candidate.
