A woman's attempt to help cover up her husband's corrupt practice went awry and now she finds a serious case slapped against herself while her husband is now behind the bars.

The ACB in Vizag were tipped off about a forest section officer, identified as Ramesh Kumar, demanding a bribe of Rs 10000 from a wood contractor in Devarapalli section. The section forest officer demanded Rs 10000 for allowing contractor Srinu to collect the wood. An exasperated Srinu approached the ACB, who laid a trap for the official. Even as he was collecting the bribe, Ramesh Kumar saw the ACB officials entering his home.

In a jiffy, he gave the amount to his wife Vasantha, who rushed into the kitchen to burn down the currency notes. She lit the gas stove and threw the currency notes into flames. But, alert ACB officials saved the currency notes from being burnt. One note of Rs 500 denomination, however, was partially burnt.

The police have arrested Ramesh Kumar for taking bribe and Vasantha for trying to destroy the evidence. Ramesh Kumar has been taken into custody by the police.
