The scare of Covid and Omicron is casting long shadow over the historic and gigantic Medaram tribal jatara . The Jatara, which is held once in two years, is just two months away. This is the biggest gathering after the Kumbh Mela in the country. Crowd management and Covid spread are the issues that are worrying the governments most.
The State Government is yet undecided about the number of checkposts and testing centres for Covid. Though a special team has inspected Medaram area recently, they are still studying as to how many testing centres should be set up. Similarly, crowd control, testing and screening for the pilgrims coming from the Chhattisgrh side is also a cause for big worry for the state government
It may be recalled that the Covid cases peaked during February and March last year. This year's Jatara too would be held during the same time. So, the government is anticipating a spurt in the cases during February and March. Handling this outbreak would be an arduous task. The government is planning to circumvent this and hold the jatara.
In another development, the prestigious Health Profile project, which is being taken up in Telangana on a pilot basis too is getting affected by the reports of Omicron outbreak. A team of special officers has recently visited Mulug mandal to study the situation. The Telangana Government is trying hard to ensure that there is no outbreak of Covid during the period of Jatara.
