As warned by the global health agency World Health Organization(WHO), the new variant of Covid, Omicron is getting deeper and deeper with a high rate of transmission. Raising fears of a possible slump in the fresh infections, the Omicron case count in India had crossed the 50 mark in less than one week. The cases were below 25 last week. But now, the cases have doubled.
Now the new variant is said to have entered Telangana too. Two of the passengers coming from other countries have tested positive for the virus reportedly. One passenger from Kenya and another one from Somalia are said to be positive for the variant of concern.
The fresh infections were detected as part of the routine Corona detection tests at the airport which was made mandatory under the precautionary measures to beat the virus. Given the Omicron scare, the Indian government asked the state governments to make required arrangements to test all the air passengers coming from other countries.
The fresh infections were under the Mehdipatnam limits. As per the protocols, the concerned authorities have tested the family members of both positive cases and were subsequently shifted to the dedicated quarantine facilities.
The Health Department officials have appealed to the people to follow the Covid protocols without fail so that the virus spread can be stopped. Steps like wearing a mask, following physical distance, and maintaining personal hygiene should be followed without a fail, the authorities said.
The other Telugu state Andhra Pradesh also reported an Omicron case the other day. It has been widely reported that a person who recently came to the state from another country tested Omicron positive and was placed under a quarantine facility.
On the flip side, the Coronavirus infections are on a spree of getting decreased. In the last 24 hours, the country reported the least fresh cases in recent times with as many as 6,984 new infections.
The fresh addition of cases pushes the Covid case toll in the country to a whopping 3,47,10,628. The active cases saw a dip of 1,431 cases and stand at 87,562 currently.
