The Covid outbreak impacted many things around us and resulting in pausing the issuance of visas to US aspirants is one of them. As things become normal, the visas are being issued. With the applications piling up, the waiting period for the visas also increased exponentially. Seeing this, the United States is giving its best in addressing the demand for visas.

Opening a new United States Consulate in Hyderabad is one such effort. The new campus is equipped with all the facilities and a bigger employee force. The Nanakramguda campus is the biggest in South Asia which is spread over 12 acres of land.

US Consul General Hyderabad Jennifer Larson held a press meet from the consulate and gave an insight into the planning and aims of the Consulate. She said that the aim is to process over one million visas this year. Jennifer Larson said that preference would be given to students who want to go to America for higher studies.

On the occasion, the US Consul General Hyderabad said that Indians make up a big percentage of people who go to America for education and working purposes. People moving from the Telugu states to America is increasing regularly. Indians are 65 percent of the people who moved to America from the world nations in 2022. Around 70.5 percent of Indian students are going to America for studies, she said.

Shedding light on the facilities the new campus has, US Consul General Hyderabad Jennifer Larson said that previously 1,100 visa applications were cleared from the Paigah Palace campus which is the highest-single day applications, and the Nanakramguda campus is equipped with facilities to process 3,000 to 3,500 visa applications.

She said that the US Mission in India wants to process more than one million visas this year. This tells us the facilities the new campus has and the efforts the Consulate is putting in. While the US Consulate is the largest and biggest in South Asia, there are four other consulates in India. US Aspirants will get a big relief once the US Consulate starts functioning with full force.

India has five US Consulates in total. The national capital Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, the Financial capital Mumbai, and Pearl City Hyderabad have the US Consulates.
