As we are done with the Karnataka elections, the focus is now on the other states which will see the general elections soon. Madhya Pradesh is among the poll-bound states and the elections will be held later this year. The election fever has started already and the ruling and opposition parties are targeting each other.
Amid this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made some crucial comments on Uniform Civil Code. He is in Madhya Pradesh now and he flagged off two Vande Bharat trains. He addressed the gathering on the occasion and made key comments on the much-talked-about Uniform Civil Code.
The Prime Minister asked how the country can have two laws as the Indian Constitution talks about equal rights. Modi also mentioned that the Supreme Court also asked to implement the UCC. Narendra Modi maintained that people are being instigated in the name of UCC.
"Today people are being instigated in the name of UCC. How can the country run on two (laws)? The Constitution also talks of equal rights...Supreme Court has also asked to implement UCC. These (Opposition) people are playing vote bank politics," Narendra Modi said.
As the elections are due in a few states and the much-awaited 2024 Lok Sabha elections are due, Modi talked about this. Many say that the UCC might be a key weapon for the saffron party for the Lok Sabha polls if everything goes well and it might be a trump card.
The Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi issue and scrapping Article 370 have been the agenda of the BJP for a very long time. Hundreds of year-old dispute in Ayodhya was sorted out as the Supreme Court gave a verdict in favour of Hindus.
Following this, Ram Mandir is being constructed in the temple city Ayodhya which is expected to be unveiled in January 2024. Article 370 was scrapped which deals with the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Uniform Civil Code is only pending in the list and there is a talk that this will also be pushed if BJP comes to power again. Amid this, Narendra Modi talked about the UCC which grabbed everyone's attention.
