The PRC issue in Andhra Pradesh kick-started a big storm. The government employees have severely opposed the PRC recommendations and decided to protest against it. Unhappy with the government response, the employees have called for protests.
As part of the protests, the employees gave a call for a Chalo Vijayawada rally. But the rally became a reason behind the tense situation in the temple city Vijayawada.
Citing the Covid scare, the cops have denied permission for the rally, and arrests were made by the police. Despite the arrests and the checkpoints coming in place, the employees reached the BRTS road to protest against the PRC.
The employees reached the spot like a flood as thousands of employees had gathered at one place. Holding placards and flexes, the employees have raised slogans against the PRC.
The Employees Association leaders have dubbed the Chalo Vijayawada rally successful. They said that employees working in various fields took part in the protest making it successful and thanked them for their active participation.
The employees can be seen holding flags and raising slogans 'we want justice'. Keeping the rally in mind, the Police Department had diverted the traffic in the busy areas to see that no unwanted scenes were reported.
"A section of employees could not reach the protesting site due to the checkpoints. Pen Down by the employees will be held from Saturday. As announced earlier, we will go on indefinite strike from the midnight of 6th. The Secretariat employees will join the force from 7th," the leaders said.
The leaders went on to say that they are protesting for the rightful demands and said that they will not call off their protests unless their demands on the PRC issue are addressed by the government. They also alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government should leave the adamant nature and look into their demands.
The protests were started by the government employees against the PRC recommendations. They have been alleging that the pay scales offered by the new PRC will reduce their salaries. The employees have already knocked on the doors of the Andhra Pradesh High Court earlier.
