Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a Video conference with the Chief Ministers of the states to take a call on the lockdown in the country and sought suggestions from the states on the lockdown.
In The Video conference that lasted for three hours, Modi took many suggestions and their take on extending the existing lockdown across the nation.
Key issues such as lockdown extension, the state of the economy, and lifting of restrictions in the restricted areas were discussed in the Video-conference.
Going by the situations in their respective states, four Chief Ministers have recommended extending the lockdown even after May 3rd, the supposed date on which the lockdown will be lifted.
In the conference, PM Modi has lauded the collective efforts of the states in fighting the Coronavirus and said that the lockdown has shown a significant impact in containing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
"For a long time now, COVID-19 has become a part of our lives. Considering the threat that it poses we shouldn't compromise on one thing that is maintaining social distance. This should be made into a mantra for all- 'do gaj doori'. We have to keep spreading this message and should be a life lesson for all. In the same way, masks or face covers should become a major part of our lives." Modi said at the conference.
Goa and Meghalaya among the states that batted for the extension of the lockdown. PM expressed an opinion that there is a need to extend the lockdown keeping the situation in mind. The lockdown measures will be imposed strictly in the Red and Orange zones.
