The Republican Party of India led by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale demanded printing of BR Ambedkar's image on the new currency note. A constitutional amendment has also been sought for providing reservation for economically weaker sections who aren't getting benefitted from caste-based reservations.
Ramdas Athawale states people all over the country (not Dalits alone) have been demanding Ambedkar's photo on the currency notes. At the same time, He claims to be proud to have the picture of Mahatma Gandhi because of whom India achieved freedom from the British Rule. He now seeks the image of Ambedkar on at least some part of the currency as a mark of respect to Babasaheb.
Supporting PM Narendra Modi's demonetisation, Mr.Athawale recalls Ambedkar advocating change of currency after every 10 years in his thesis while studying in London School of Economics.
