We have only a year time for the 2019 general elections to be held in India. But there are clear indications that political heat is slowly raising everywhere. Several national dailies.. tv channels.. survey agencies have already conducted individual and joint surveys on the upcoming polls and the regional media is also giving prime importance to these surveys.
Media reports.. the review meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.. Rahul Gandhi's review meets of Congress party.. etc are giving clear indications that they have already started exercise for the elections. It is known that the majority of the last week surveys predicted that Narendra Modi is going to become the PM once again but not with a full-fledged majority but with the help of alliance partners. The surveys also revealed that Congress will surely give sleepless nights to Modi, even though they are not in a position to achieve power.
President of India Ramnath Kovind made interesting comments at this juncture during his speech in the parliament. He said that conducting all the elections simultaneously will not hamper the development in India. He said that a lot of government money will be saved with this kind of approach. He wished that central and state governments should work together in this direction. One would say that Modi has already expressed his wish in favour of simultaneous elections. Modi gave a lengthy speech for the need to conduct simultaneous elections and he gave logical reasons that separate elections are hampering the development. There were reports that the CMs of the majority of the states also responded to this proposal positively.
As President also talked about the simultaneous elections now, political analysts are saying that the government is making moves towards it. To conduct simultaneous elections, the assemblies of all the states should be nullified. States might not oppose this move if the central government comes up with this proposal. Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah reportedly alerted their party cadre to be ready for the elections. Some people opine that Modi gave indications to all the parties through President Kovind.
