Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is a name that needs no introduction. His image is such that people fondly call him Rajanna. The policies he took when he was the Chief Minister earned him an image of people's leader. He implemented the welfare scheme to a point like no one ever did.
July 8 marks the birth anniversary of Mahanetha YSR. On this occasion, let us look into his political journey and what makes him stand out from others. His emergence changed the political picture in the state.
The Congress leaders before YSR used to follow the style of just implementing what the leadership says. But YSR changed this and started doing what people wants. Doing a padayatra across the state made him close to people and understand what are their issues and troubles.
After having first-hand information on the ground reality, YSR understood what he needs to do to root out the problems of people. He did the same after becoming the Chief Minister. This made him focus on welfare and take this to the people in the state.
He left a big legacy in the state by bringing flagship schemes. Everyone knows how costly treatment is in hospitals. Poor people cannot afford this. Seeing this, YSR brought Aarogyasri Scheme so that the beneficiaries can get treatment in hospitals. Even Private hospitals are covered under this and without having to spend money from their pickets, people can get treatment.
Everyone wants Education and Health. After offering quality treatment with Aarogyasri, the Chief Minister brought the Fee reimbursement scheme under which poor students are allowed to pursue higher studies. The government funds the fees so that students can study whatever they want and reach good positions in their lives.
The welfare ruling of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is not restricted to health and education. Farmers are given much-needed financial assistance. He is credited for providing irrigation water for lakhs of acres in the combined state under the Jalayagnam. Farmers play a key role in our society and there is no food without them. YSR supported the same food providers.
He might be not present with us physically. But people cannot forget him as he left a big legacy. No words can describe what he had done for the people. It will be not an aggregation to say that there is not a single family which did not get welfare under his regime.
Very rarely do we see father-son duo becoming the Chief Ministers of the state. But YSR and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy achieved this. Walking in the footsteps of his father, Jagan is also implementing welfare schemes and people are seeing late YSR in Jagan.
