The joke in Kavali assembly constituency in Nellore is that the TDP workers ride on 'bicycle' all the day and relax under the 'fan' by night. This tells the story of the TDP in the constituency. The buzz is that senior party leader Beeda Ravichandra has ensured that the TDP's municipal chairperson nominees get defeated.
In 2019, while Ravichandra remained in the TDP, his brother Beeda Mastan Rao won as an MP from the YSRCP. Though Ravichandra is the national secretary of the TDP, he is often accused of being hand in glove with his brother in the rival party. As a result, most of the TDP leaders are on friendly terms with the YSRCP. Many even have business linkages with the leaders from the rival party.
Ravichandra's two-timing and promotion of cross-voting among the TDP, has alienated several key party leaders. For instance, Katamreddy Vishnuvardhan Reddy, who suffered heavily due to cross-voting and lost to Mastan Rao in 2019, is keeping aloof from the TDP affairs allegedly due to Ravichandra.
