Scindia Effect: Congress Makes DKS Karnataka State President

Update: 2020-03-13 04:55 GMT
Stung by the sudden resignation of Jyothiraditya Scindia, the Congress has now realised that it cannot dillydally anymore on key appointments. Now, it is speeding up the process of appointing PCC chiefs to various states. As part of it, it has appointed DK Sivakumara as the PCC chief.

The party was jolted by Scindia's leaving. The Gwalior royal scion has joined the BJP and is likely to be made a union minister soon. The party leadership, which has all along ignored Scindia and pandered to Kamal Nath, now feels that it has erred by sidelining Scindia. All these days, it has kept the appointment of PCC chiefs in the limbo due to the confusion at the top over whether Rahul Gandhi would come back to become the party chief or not. Now Sonia Gandhi has woken up to the fact that more young leaders could follow suit and immediately appointed DK Sivakumara. There is another reason for appointing him, say Congress insiders. When Sonia Gandhi wanted DK and Siddaramaiah's help to reach out to the Madhya Pradesh ministers who were lodged in hotels in Bengaluru. DK Sivakumara played a key role during the Rajya Sabha elections and also during the Karnataka crisis. But, this time Sivakumara was unresponsive. Realising that he can slip out of the hands if nothing is done immediately, the party appointed him post-haste.

Insiders say there is pressure on DK Sivakumara too to join the BJP. Already, the IT and ED sleuths are after him and he has just come out of prison in connection with these cases.
