Second case registered against Twitter in India for circulating fake video
The microblogging site Twitter, which has been hitting the headlines over the new IT rules announced by the centre is going through a rough phase as cases were filed against the social media giant in a span of days.
As another blow to Twitter, the Cyberabad cops filed a case against the company for circulating a fake video that shows Police in an objectionable manner. Notice was also slapped against the social media platform.
In the notice served to Twitter, the Cyberabad cops directed the platform to share the details of two people, who have circulated the fake video. Twitter was also asked to respond to the complaint raised by actress Meera Chopra.
The new case marks the second case against Twitter in the country. The first case was filed in Uttar Pradesh. In the FIR, along with the social media platform, a few journalists and a news website were also named.
The Ghaziabad Police booked an FIR against Twitter over an alleged assault on a Muslim man, who was reportedly forced to chant 'Jai Shri Ram. Journalists Rana Ayyub, Saba Naqvi, Mohammed Zubair, and news platform Wire for giving a communal touch to the news without checking the facts.
The FIR was filed against the microblogging site and eight others under sections 153 (provocation for rioting), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295A (acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 505 (mischief), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, according to the Ghaziabad Police.
