In a major embarrassment for the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, the Supreme Court on Friday directed the CBI to continue its probe in the case pertaining to the assets disproportionate to the known sources of income against minister for education Adimulapu Suresh and his wife Viyalalaksni.  This is being seen as a major reversal for Adimulapu.

The orders to this effect were issued by a three-member division bench headed by Justice Chandrachud. It also set aside the verdict of the Telangana High Court on the issue.  However, there was some relief for the minister when the Apex court said that as per the Criminal Procedure Code, there was no need for registering a case against Adimulapu Suresh. It also said that the contention of Adimulapu Suresh that the case was filed against them by the CBI without conducting a preliminary inquiry. The Supreme Court has also said that there were some errors in the affidavit filed by the CBI in this case and asked the CBI to conduct a preliminary enquiry before taking up the case.

The CBI has approached the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Telangana High Court. The judgement in this connection was issued on Friday. The case actually pertains to the period when Suresh was an IRS officer during 2016. His wife is still an IRS officer in Hyderabad.
