Shocked Jagan govt probes intel, police failure in handing employee' stir

Update: 2022-02-05 04:08 GMT
Have the police colluded with the agitating government employees and allowed them into Vijayawada's BRTS road to stage a protest? Have the intel department fed the AP Government with false information that there would be no more than 7000 employees on the roads and lulled it into complacency? How did the government fail to assess the organisational skills of the leaders of the government employees' unions?

These are the questions that are now tormenting the YS Jagan government. The show of defiance and massive strength by the government employees has left the Jagan government completely shocked. Jagan had even held a half-hour meeting on Thursday with DGP Gowtham Sawang on this issue.  He is said to have expressed anger at the utter mismanagement of the police in controlling the employees' agitation.

Intel sources have revealed that a large number of government employees had reached Vijayawada much in advance in the guise of patients, paralytics, daily wage labourers and even as members of the marriage parties. Several of them stayed with their relatives in and around Vijayawada and milled onto the roads at the appointed time. The massive gathering took barely less than 30 minutes to reach the agitation spot. They filled the 4 km long BRTS road in Vijayawada in no time sweeping the government off its feet.

The massive show of strength has now forced the government to come on its knees and begin renegotiations with the government employees. According to insiders, Jagan government is now talking to the employees not from the position of strength but from a position of weakness. The agitation is likely to cast a long shadow on the government's overall functioning, say analysts.
