The Singapore government made a key decision during the coronavirus epidemic. The government came forward to help parents who were expecting a child during this crisis. Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat on Monday (October 5) said that they would provide additional assistance to encourage people to have babies during the pandemic. The worry is that citizens are putting off parenthood as they struggle with financial stress and job layoffs.
However, it is known that benefits are available up to $10,000 for parents who are already eligible under the Baby Bonus.
"We have received feedback that Covid-19 has caused some aspiring parents to postpone their parenthood plans," Heng Swee Keat said on Monday.
Singapore has one of the lowest birth rates in the world, which it has struggled to boost for decades.
