Telangana Government is keen on attaining Smart City status to Karimnagar in addition to Hyderabad and Warangal. After the High Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) shortlisted this city, Plans were in place to appeal Centre to include Karimnagar in the Stage II of Smart City challenge.
Union Government has sanctioned Two Smart Cities (Hyderabad, Warangal) and 15 Amrut Cities to country's youngest state Telangana based on population & other guidelines. As Telangana obtained a score of 2.66, There is every possibility of considering the inclusion of third city in the 100 Smart City list.
Centre is likely to spend Rs 50,000 crore in a span of 5 years for Smart City and Amruth Projects. The agenda is to achieve speedy development of Cities to keep pace with rising Urbanization, better quality of life, Housing for all, developing new cities near the existing ones and many more.
