It is known that the Intermediate results were announced recently. Many students failed the exam and they could not take it. Unable to digest this, nine students belonging to different areas in Andhra Pradesh passed away taking the extreme step giving irreplaceable pain to their respective families.

B. Tarun (17), B. Jagadeesh (18),Anusha (17),Babu (17),T. Kiran (17), Akhila Sri(16), Mahesh(17), Ramana Raghava, and Jaan Said(16) passed away as they could not face the fact that they failed the examination. However, the ways the victims picked to take the extreme step are different.

While a few victims hanged themselves to take their lives, a few others jumped in front of the vehicles. One student is said to have jumped into a lake. Unfortunately, young students took the extreme step seeing that they failed the intermediate exams. Though they can give the supplementary exams, they opted to take their lives.

B. Tarun (17) jumped in front of a train, and while Akhilasree hanged herself, Anusha jumped into a lake. Jagadeesh also hanged himself and Babu reportedly took pesticides.

Such incidents shed light on the mental stress students face and why we should have counseling sessions for them before the exam results. They need to be made to understand that failing exams is not the end of life and they can take supplementary exams to clear the exams. It is high time that we should focus on this. Recently we have heard how a few Medical students and engineering students took an extreme step due to mental stress and harassment.

The Intermediate results were announced in the state recently. The pass percentage in the first year and second years stood at 61 and 72 respectively. More than 10 lakh students appeared for the exams. The Inter Advanced Supplementary exam schedule was also announced by the board and the exams will be held from May 24 to June 1.
