A bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna made some serious comments on hate speech and said that this is high time we should act tough against this and the states should strictly file cases and also directed the states to not wait for the complaints.
Hearing a bunch of petitions on hate speeches, the Supreme Court said that without waiting for the complaint, the states should file cases and the issue is a serious matter. The bench said that hate speeches can affect the saffron fabric of the nation.
Expressing concerns on hate speeches, the bench said that cases should be filed irrespective of the religious identity of the offenders and the delay in filing the cases would be seen as a contempt of the court.
A few months back, the Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi police to file the cases. Now the scope of the orders was extended to all the states and said that police should file cases without waiting for the complaints.
Hate speeches have turned out to be a big menace in society. Political leaders are passing such comments to increase their political image. But the comments are fueling issues between the communities and causing a tense situation in society.
Earlier former Minister Swami Prasad Maurya made some objectionable comments on Ramcharitmanas and even gave a call to burn copies of it. A few people were arrested. To polarize the votes politicians use hate speeches which are affecting the secular fabric of the nation.
