The Tamil Nadu Government's school education department has issued a circular to all the schools in the state. The circular has asked the parents of school children to switch off their mobile phones on November 14, which is observed as the Children's Day, and spend time with their children. The circular advised the partents to switch off their phones from 7.30 am till 8.30 P and talk to their children. ''Talking to your children, understanding their issues is of key importance and excessive time on mobile phone is actually reducing the communication between the parents and the students,'' a government official said. He said that lack of communication between the parents and the students is leading to several sociological and psychological problems among the children.
The circular has also asked the students to pressurise their parents to talk to them and keep their mobiles aside. The government is planning to make this a weekly affair so that the parent-child interaction will grow in the society. Telling bedtime stories and interacting with the children about their time in their schools will help in understanding the children better, studies say.
