To combat the rising poistive cases of the novel coronavirus in the state, the Tamil Nadu government has closed the borders with Andhra Pradesh so that the vehicles coming from the state will not enter the state.
At the Chittoor Ponni Chennai and Chittoor Gudyiyatham roads, around 7 feet walls were built at both entry and exit points of these roads. This development from Tamil Nadu will restrict the movement of the vehicles as Chittor lies very close to Tamil Nadu.
The wall was built under the administartion of the Vellore district which erected two concrete walls between both the states to halt the movement of the vehicles from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu
"Vellore is an important town in neighbouring Tamil Nadu and borders Chittoor. Many Telugu-speaking people live there. No inter-state transport or movement of people is being allowed due to the ongoing lockdown restrictions. Besides, there is an inter-state check-post between Vellore and Chittoor. In this context, the abrupt construction of these concrete structures between the two states is strange, unusual, and also unwarranted," Chittoor district's joint collector D Markandeyulu said on the latest development.
Talking about the positive cases in both the states, the toll in Tamil Nadu stood at 1,885 claiming 24 fatalities in the state. On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh reported 1,177 positive cases of COVID-19 and reported 31 deaths so far.
