Tamil Nadu Govt's First Big Step In Opposing EWS Quota!

Update: 2022-11-23 11:16 GMT
No matter which party is in power, the Tamil Nadu government always maintained its strong nature. Probably for the first time, the state government is now locking horns with the Union government led by Bharatiya Janata Party due to various reasons. The different ideologies of BJP and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are also a big reason.

DMK opposed many decisions of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Economically Weaker Sections quota proposed by the BJP is a new issue that is opposed by the DMK. The Tamil Nadu government openly opposed it saying that the new reservation would impact the other reservations and vowed to fight it.

Now the Tamil Nadu government made a big step in opposing the EWS quota. A DMK leader filed a sensational petition seeking directives to do away with the practice of charging income tax from individuals with an annual income of more than Rs 2.5 lakh.

The petition says that the criteria mentioned by the Union government to grant EWS quota say families with less than a yearly income of eight lakhs are eligible, but families with over Rs 2.50 lakhs of income are paying tax and asked this confusion should be cleared.

The Madras High Court which heard the petition said that and sought a response from the Union Government. Having posted the next hearing to four weeks later the High Court served notice to the government.

Now the ball is in the court of the Union Government. The case is dependent on the version given by the Centre. Without any guess, the DMK would counter this and there are high chances for the issue to go to the Supreme Court.
