TDP Is Orphaned In This Key Assembly Constituency

Update: 2020-09-21 03:31 GMT
The TDP is finding itself rudderless in Ramachandrapuram constituency in East Godavari district. The party, which had put all its eggs in one basket, is now finding that there is no second-level leader to rebuild the party. Over the years, Ramachandrapuram assembly constituency became synonymous with just one leader – Thota Trimurthulu.

Trimurthulu was a Kapu leader and became an MLA for four times riding on the Kapu vote bank. The Settibalija leadership and followers, who are known to be a counterfoil to the Kapus, have rallied with the Congress and then with the YSRCP. As a result, there is no Settibalija leader in the TDP in Ramachandrapuram. All these years, Trimurthulu did not allow any other alternative leader to grow.

In the post 2019 politics, Trimurthulu has left the TDP and joined the YSRCP. Now, in the changed circumstances, the TDP does not have the Settibalija support on one hand and lost the only Kapu leader it used to have. There is no leader worth the salt from any of these communities to fill the void. So, the party is now leaderless in Ramachandrapuram assembly constituency.

The latest buzz is that Setti Balija leader from neighbouring Kothapeta area Reddy Subramanyam might be asked to handle the Ramachandrapuram constituency. It remains to be seen if Reddy Subramanyam will be able to make the cut.
